International workshop `Genius Loci`


ARTS4CITY invites to Port Sevkabel creative space to the international workshop `Genius Loci`.

Public Discussion will be held on April 20, 7pm-9pm:

• 20 min Introduction: by session organizers, venue leaders, representatives from municipalities (tbd)
• 100 min Talks by guest speakers from Germany and Russia, Q&A session

Seemingly different views on the city of sociologists and architects are both necessary and complementary when we reflect on what makes a place lively, what is atmosphere, spirit and genius loci of the space, how to design material patterns and social scenarios to make the place ‘work’.

Russian speaker (most probably Aleksander Stepanov, art historian, author of the book “Phenomenology of St.Petersburg Architecture”) “Phenomenology of St.Petersburg Architecture”

Moderator: Alexandra Nenko, PhD, associate professor at Institute for Design and Urban Studies ITMO University, project manager at the Centre for German and European Studies, ARTS4CITY founder

Workshop will be held:
April 21-22, 12pm-6pm
lunch break 2pm-3pm

Workshop on designing a small architectural form which would animate open space at Port Sevkabel venue. The workshop includes the full cycle of urban design - field study, brainstorming, prototyping, testing. Participants work in multidisciplinary teams. Workshop is led by ARTS4CITY and P.Smol, keynotes become experts for the teams, Port Sevkabel representatives participate as stakeholders at all stages. Eventually teams prepare design ideas and prototypes, the best one of them is implemented by the winning team with organizer’s help. All design ideas can be presented as an exhibition at Port Sevkabel.
