Final of the International Competition of Research Papers

The final of the International Competition of Research Papers by Junior Social Scientists took place on Friday 25th of November. 

It is an annual event organized by the Centre for German and European Studies and the Council of Young Scientists, Faculty of Sociology, St. Petersburg State University. 18 papers in English covering topics related to European societies were submitted for consideration; 5 articles were selected and their authors came through to the final. These were: Daria Lyuto (Siberian Federal University), Mikhail Zakharov (Oryol State University), Julia Gataulina (School of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University and the University of Tampere), Tatiana Udalova (Faculty of Sociology, St. Petersburg State University), Anastasia Golofast (Moscow State Institute of International Relations).

The finalists presented their papers and answered questions of the jury that consisted of representatives of CGES, Faculty of Sociology of SPSU, Bielefeld University, Higher School of Economics, Sociological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration of the Russian Federation. Following on from the discussion, three winners were selected.

Anastasia Golofast, author of the paper "Exogenous shock as institutional change factor for the EU: accountability versus democratic deficit" was awarded the first place, Julia Gataulina’s work "Translation of Gender Equality: Nordic Initiatives in the Russian Context" got the second place and Tatiana Udalova with her paper "Atypical Employment in Germany and France" came third.

We would like to congratulate all three finalists and in particular, Anastasia Golofast who is in receipt of a grant to conduct empirical research in Europe; she will be able to publish her work in CGES Working Papers in 2017.

All finalists were invited to participate in the training run by Dr Verena Molitor (Bielefeld University) on writing articles for international scientific journals. This seminar for both undergraduates and postgraduates will take place on 24th March, 2017. Information on how to apply will be published in early 2017.
