Summer School for postgraduate students in Saint Petersburg


Centre for German and European Studies (St. Petersburg State University – Bielefeld University) invite postgraduate students to participate in the Summer School ‘Civil Society in Europe: Changing Methodological Opportunities and Limits’ that will be held in Saint Petersburg (Russia), on August, 22-26, 2017.

Application deadline: June 25, 2017.

The main objective of the summer school therefore is to give young researchers theoretical and methodological background on European civil society studies and to train their skills for use in their analysis of social and political processes.

Teachers from Russia and the EU with different academic backgrounds will give lectures and intensive workshops as well as run discussions on research papers of participants.


We are looking forward to your applications if you are interested in the following topics:

-          Civil society organizations in Europe, Germany and Russia;

-          Nation-Building and Citizenship in Europe;

-          Ethnic Minorities, Multiculturalism and Integration of Migrants in Europe.


Working language: English.

Fees: No fees, the accommodation and food expenses are covered by the organizers.

Limited number of travel grants are available.

Applications must include:

  1. CV (in English or Russian);

  2. letter of motivation with description of applicant’s reason for participation need of the travel grant (in English only);

  3. current or planned research project description (in English or Russian), including title, objectives, hypotheses of a research, as well as ideas about theoretical and methodological bases of research.
