Start-up scholarships

The Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS) awards up to six four-month start-up scholarships to international MA graduates who would like to pursue a doctoral degree in history, sociology, anthropology, or political science at the BGHS. Recipients receive the opportunity to prepare a persuasive proposal for a dissertation project. Subsequently, they may apply for the doctoral degree programme at the BGHS and/or for scholarships, doctoral positions and funding programmes in Germany or worldwide.

Research paper competition: the deadline has been extended until November 09, 2015!


Are you ready to plunge into a different reality? Have you ever thought of exploring the endless social and cultural space of Russia? Maybe you already have some theoretical assumptions about Russian society and culture? Then we have some good news for you: we are accepting research papers for a competition of European graduate and postgraduate students to award a 1275 Euro scholarship for a research trip to Russia in 2016.

The papers (unpublished as well as recently published) should address theoretical or empirical analyses of issues in social sciences and humanities focusing on Russian society or culture.

Centre for German and European Studies is happy to announce the call for abstracts for session  “Socio-Semantic Networks” devoted to the emerging field of joint social and semantic network analysis at Sunbelt INSNA conference

The session is co-organised by CGES researchers and is a part of the Sunbelt Conference of the International Network for Social Network Analysis, the main international event in the field, which will be held in Newport Beach, California, April 5th – April 10th, 2016

The Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Sociology (St. Petersburg State University) in cooperation with the Center for German and European Studies (St. Petersburg State University—Bielefeld University) are glad to announce a Russian-European competition of research papers by young scientists interested in comparative Russian-European studies. Winners will receive a prize of 1275 Euro to conduct an empirical research in Europe or Russia.
