The Regional and Systematic Transformation of the ’Education for Democratic Participation’ Conception in Europe

Analysis of policy and practice within this research project focused on the study of documents, legislation, national and international educational programmes, reports on best practice in citizenship education, and teaching materials on the international European level (CoE, EU) and in different European countries (Russia, Germany, Estonia) in order to detect the paths of development of the concept of democratic participation in different European regions. The research is based on the assumption that reconstruction of conceptions of democratic participation as represented in CE policies could provide significant insight into the development of participative democracy in Europe. The study of education practice in democratic citizenship in Europe is essential for understanding basic knowledge and skills as ‘citizens in the making’ are being created in European societies, alongside the capacities expected from them by European states.
