Diversity, Inequalities and Citizenship: Conceptual Interdependencies

The main focus of the project is the analysis of the category “diversity” as a concept within European policies of citizenship and Human Rights Education and in the context of teaching materials, and the bordering between the conceptions of diversities and inequalities. The project seeks to make a contribution to the theoretical conceptualisations of inequalities within the grand narrative of European Educational policies and practices.

The results were presented under the title “Reducing or re-producing uncertainty? Dealing with the topics of inequalities and diversity in civic education” by Dr. Tatjana Zimenkova during the 11th Conference of European Sociological Association: “Crisis, Critique and Change” (28-31th August 2013, Turin, Italy), within the framework of the Research Network 10 /Sociology of Education), session “Inequalities in Education II”.

The results will be also presented during the conference “Human rights for LGBT in Russia”, February 1, 2014, City town hall „Rotes Rathaus” of Berlin, Under the patronage of the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. Dr. Tatjana Zimenkova will apply institutional analysis on the topics of diversity, heterogeneities and marginalization in Europe.
